Celebrating History, Shaping the Future
The
Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens
represents the bright, the beautiful, and the hopeful
side of life. There is no other institution of its kind
in the world. No other place can match its combination
of rare library materials, spectacular art collections,
and magnificent botanical gardens. Taken together, they
celebrate human intellect and creativity, and the wonder
and beauty of the natural world.
In its mission
as an independent research and educational institution
that does not charge tuition to its scholars and students,
The Huntington must rely heavily on its endowment and
annual giving to survive. While admission fees and other
revenues do help to defray costs, it is the generosity
of generations of Huntington donors that sustains the
institution.
In July 2004, the institution embarked on an important
new endeavor – For Generations to
Come — The Campaign for The Huntington,
a comprehensive six-year initiative to raise $175 million
in annual, capital, and endowment gifts. The goal: to
strengthen the institution substantially, both physically
and financially.
The Campaign seeks to:
- Sustain Current Programs –
through annual operating gifts that support the core
mission of research and education and that provide
a financial bridge between today and tomorrow.
| Annual Operating Goal: |
$60 million |
- Strengthen the Physical Foundation
– with capital gifts that repair and renovate
the institution’s infrastructure and preserve
the historic estate.
| Capital Goal: |
$35 million |
- Safeguard the Future – through
new endowments that will provide income to support
staff, protect the collections, and fund research
and educational programs over the long term.
| Endowment Goal: |
$80 million |
This institution
reflects Henry Huntington’s remarkable vision
and generosity and the philanthropic acts of thousands
of others who followed his lead. In their spirit, we
invite you to participate generously in our most ambitious
campaign ever.
